Hi all.

So I am getting abuse and harassment on Twitter.

People making false allegations, setting up fake accounts saying it’s me pretending to be someone else, trolling, targeted harrasment.

This is really upsetting.

@mike or anyone...advice, support would be really helpful.....

You are not “too” anything. You are not too much, too loud, too weak.

Hi @mike & @vishnu I seem to remember in an episode of TLC last year, you said The Liturgists were coming to Australia in ~August 2019. Is this still likely? My wife and I are in the UK at the moment, but are heading back to Perth, Australia for a wedding in September. Trying to decide if we should fly home early for a possible Liturgists event. If not, will try and catch you somewhere in the US around October-December.

Good Friday - sacrilegious thoughts

I guess it turns out Jesus can even save me from the Jr. Higher in my heart sometimes.

Good Friday - sacrilegious thoughts

This image was so inappropriate that I nearly burst out laughing many times as I stood in line to venerate (and I think anyone who saw my face, might have wondered about my sanity). I decided not to kiss Jesus feet (or anything else) when I got to the front, but honestly the crucifix sobered me, instantly transporting me from a moment of hilarity to a moment of deep reverence.

Immediately in response, I pictured in my head a sullen teenage boy dragged to the Good Friday service by his parents. He waited in line, got to the front, kneeled before the cross, but instead of kissing Jesus' feet, he enthusiastically simulated oral sex as those waiting behind him looked on with horror and the priest holding the huge crucifix wondered what to do.

Good Friday - sacrilegious thoughts

As a defense mechanism, my mind decided to imagine, "what would the most offensive parody of this moment of worship look like?".

So between the sermon and the sacrament there was a portion of the service dedicated to veneration of the cross. The priest unveiled a crucifix and congregants took turns kneeling before the crucified Christ. Many kissed his feet. In a way it was beautiful, but It's one of those those things that strikes my evangelical mind strangely. The physical embodiment is very different than what I was raised with and it seemed kind of foreign, and almost pagan to me.

@Arryq But the story I want to tell isn't about the genuine wonderfulness of the service. I wanted to tell you about the sacrilege that entered my mind and made me stifle laughter during the service.

Good Friday - sacrilegious thoughts

So I went to a church service at Grace Episcopal church (a gorgeous church 150 years old that couldn’t be more different than the evangelical church I grew up in). It was a beautiful service with a lot of scripture, a short and insightful homily, and a meaningful communion service. Afterwards I had a fantastic conversation with the pastor who grew up in the same small evangelical movement I came from and ended up going to Yale Divinity. It was a great morning.

I just made the mistake of trying to engage the visual among us without a picture. Sorry! See above TOOT. Toot toot (the novelty has not yet worn off, toot toot!)

Are there any painters out there? I'm very new here and don't have enough followers to start up a or directory. So, if you wanna chat about colour liturgy or christ's representation in the arts or an atheist's relationship to beauty follow me and let's start one!

Technical question for @mike or anyone else who may know. When we upload photos on here, is meta data removed from the photo like imgur uploads?

HEY everyone, my name is Eric. I’m from Southwest Missouri. Happily married with 3 kids (13, 9, and 5). Raised in the Independent Christian Church, Christian College Educated, took a turn from ministry and trained to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. I slowly began deconstructing in the midst of the Iraq war. For a long time, I’d go through a paradigm shift and assume I’d finally arrived at my destination. Also, I’m half-Puerto Rican and even whiter than @vishnu.

@vishnu @mike I’d really like a “fuck you, I’m a goat” T-shirt at some point pls

Poetry heard today on NPR. For all of you with partners ready for a crazy weekend... 🙂

“Are you in the mood?"

I am.
Let's put the kids down.
Have a light dinner.
Shower.
Maybe not drink so much.
And do that thing I would rather do with you than with anyone else.
Lie in bed and look at our iPhones.
