The Meaning of Self-Advocacy
"Self-advocacy is fundamentally about true equality, respect, and power, and about recognizing and changing the current imbalances in all of those things. Whether it is going through the legal system to close an institution, fighting back physically against intolerable surroundings, talking back to staff, sabotaging the power of staff over the lives of disabled people, being listened to when we communicate in non-standard ways, learning that it's okay to have a voice and make decisions, or passively resisting the dominance of others over our lives, real self-advocacy will always upset the status quo in some way."

personally affirm all people! I live by the idea that every is welcome at The Table and that the “Love God Love Others” words of Yeshua are the foundation upon which I work forward in #reconstruction I love each and every one of you on this forum and everyone who has suffered spiritual trauma at the hands of the church. I affirm that each of you are beautifully and wonderfully designed and loved.

The UMC General Conference is coming up and if you know what “the way forward” is then you know about the division and infighting within the #methodist denomination that may result in a schism. I am on staff (Maintenance Team) and our church has discussed this in staff or congregation exactly 0 in the last 2 years other than what you see in this pic of an email. If you want more info on this subject, I recommend Jeremy Smith with www.hackingchristianity.net
If you are so inclined, tomorrow in the midst of your Valentine’s Day, please spare a moment to think about, pray for, or do-whatever-you’d-do, for the 17 families who lost a child or loved one last year at the Stoneman Douglas shooting. I live in this community. I work in its school system. A former student of mine is a teacher who hid children in her room for hours. The world moves on, and yet it doesn’t. I can’t begin to imagine what the world is like for people who lost family that day.88?
I've had a terrible headache for more than 10 days--it wakes me up at night, and is there in the morning. I've tried everything: cutting caffeine, OTC meds, prescription migraine meds, and nothing had any effect.
Last night, I ate one low does cannabis edible before bed. This morning, my head is clear and pain free.
WHY DOES THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT STILL TREAT CANNABIS LIKE A DANGEROUS DRUG?
Can we all just agree that @vishnu 's laugh is one of the greatest things in the world? 😂
I am sharing this pics of this email from Gungor in the event anyone needs additional encouragement to attend one of the “End of the World” tour stops. See you in Atlanta @vishnu
Just wanted to say a quick word to y’all on this Monday morning.
The past few days in here have been an oasis in a desert of social media negativity, hatred, and divisiveness. I’m so thankful to @mike for creating this community and so thankful for each of you and the genuine, loving conversations that we’ve shared.
I pray that as we go out into the world today that we carry that kindness, understanding, and encouragement we’ve shown here to the difficult people and situations that we face.
I am not ashamed of being a white person, and frankly, I find it absurd when people accuse me of being ashamed of being white.
I don't hate white people. I am a white person.
I'm a white person who wants to tear down white supremacy. I am a white person who sees and understands the problems whiteness create in our culture and our ecology.
This is not complicated.
