Rep. Ayanna Pressley is trying to get the national voting age changed from 18 to 16.
It's reasonable to have some doubt about this, but the responses I've seen really speak to a disregard of youth. Many 16 year olds are far more informed than adults, especially as lessons in history and civics are often fresher on their minds.
People need to treat youth with more respect and recognize that many 16 and younger are already active in politics, they just can't vote.

The first place my mind goes is what we would need to do to protect them from the heightened risk of abuse since a vote is a thing of value and they have even fewer options and protections than an 18 year old. Legally they are less a person.
As far as their ability and right to have a voice goes, I have no problem with that.
@tmorizot That's a very good point. My hope would also be that having a vote would lead to more rights for young people
