I've been here for the better part of a month, but forgot to attach the hashtag, so here's my #introductions
I'm a filmmaker and chronic overthinker. My wife and I got married just a little over four months ago.
I've been deconstructing for close to four years now. I grew up in the Church of Christ tradition, and though my wife and I still attend a CoC congregation, I feel that I have outgrown those beliefs.
Currently seeking an open minded and loving community. It's so good to be here.
Does anybody know where I can get access to some reliable sources on sex trafficking? I was interested in helping a non profit that rescues trafficking survivors, but when I researched the topic further, I found it very difficult to find any concrete data. I've seen some groups claim that sex trafficking in the U.S. is a moral panic, and I've seen others on the opposite side claim that this is a major issue. I just want to know what I'm getting into so I can do good and avoid harm.
So, I'm still attending a more traditional church where I live, and I find myself having such conflicting feelings about the messages I hear. I'm totally on board when leaders talk about how we all have immense value and are unconditionally loved by God. It's very odd that this idea is often paired with how we are corrupt from birth. How do we affirm the worth of others, while still facing suffering in the world? Most answers I find within Christian soteriology just don't seem to cut it for me.
I am a filmmaker and hopeless nerd. My wife and I live with our two cats in the buckle of the Bible belt. Either 4 wing 5 or 5 wing 4.
