My #deconstruction story starts on August 10th, 2014. The day before, a child named Michael Brown had been shot dead by a policeman in Ferguson, MO, and on the 10th mass protests broke out in the streets. My wife and I watched protest livestreams on the Internet with brows furrowed and mouths agape, as the police response turned into a brutal and violent repression reminiscent of the response by Middle Eastern ruling parties to the Arab Spring.
Hi, I’m Phil, 32 y/o straight guy in Dallas. Grew up mainline, became an evangelical in a secretly fundamentalist college ministry, deconverted late in 2015 and have been putting the pieces back together since. Currently identify as a follower of Jesus exploring what a process deity brings to my spirituality and liberation-centered ethics. I’m a volunteer for Church Clarity & active in my state Faith in Action chapter (https://faithinaction.org). And I’m a geekdad.
Hello from the #LitSingles gathering in Chicago!
@Philexvy She was, is, and always will continue to be an amazing voice for all of us who wrestle in the places between faith and doubt.
#BecauseofRHE I still have faith today
If any exvangelicals are here who like rap music, an album was just released by a new rap artist named Nightlightr called Unloose. It's *amazing.* It's his story of deconstructing from evangelicalism being a gay man. I highly recommend it! It's on Spotify and iTunes. :) I think "Above and Below" and "Holy" are my two favorites so far.
Getting ready for ASMR from this new @audreyassad Hymns EP
Had a great weekend together playing Minecraft and staying up past our bedtime(s), then capped it off with a fun build of this month’s Kiwi Co craft box. He’s been asking to play the skill crane whenever we go to the pizza place down the street so this was a much better alternative. #NotAnAd #ActualFun
@Philexvy ... It should never be had, because it doesn’t exist.”
Just had to record that amazeballs answer for posterity
“One side of me wants to give you an argument for why it is valuable, but the truth is that it’s not valuable at all. It’s literally no different from anything else. It’s the exact same situation. It’s your feet in hell, your head in heaven. The only possible existence. You can try to attain it but you’ve already attained it. You can try and lose it, but you never had it. So to value it as better or worse is meaningless. It shouldn’t be sought, it shouldn’t be gained. It should never be lost...
How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all humanity! (Psalm 89)
@mattlaff you’ve reminded me that I need to see Captain Marvel again
Wonder why I'm so caught off guard when we kiss.
I'd rather live my life in regret then do this.
What happened to the love we both knew, we both chased?
Hanging on a cigarette, you need me, you'll burn me
You'll burn me.
Hushed with a finger,
Don't say you'll never when you might
Oh, just another time
This poison comes instruction free.
Do what you want, But I'm drinking.
@mike just listened to A&R about The Rock and there’s a movie I need you to score on the Nine Scale. It’s from 2005, it’s called Southland Tales, it stars The Rock and a whole bunch of other hugely famous actors, and as a 1 I found it to be the most batshit crazy film I’ve ever seen. I will ship you the DVD or Blu Ray if you DM me your preferred shipping address. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405336/
Tell the prisoners, tell the jailers
Tell the world, tell everybody
We'll all be free
