Sort of a desperate appeal to the #Seattle / Puget sound area - one my local comrades is a young trans woman who moved here to support her girlfriend as she moved out of a transphobic and abusive household. They're now trying to find housing, but their income is just enough to keep paying for temporary housing through AirBnB and they don't even have surplus to pay apartment application fees themselves.
If anyone around here is either looking for roommates, or has any space (even basement/floor/attic space) in their house where they could have shelter for awhile for less than the like $400/week they're paying AirBnB, that would be a lifesaver for them.
Boosts appreciated to reach the Seattle trans/radical fediverse as much as I can.
Coming out today as trans UPDATE
I have my youngest sister and my parents to come out to before I move forward (parents are the main concern), but it means everything to know with certainty that I now have 2 siblings who have my back in this.
Coming out today as trans
I’m considering coming out to my sister today as trans. She spent the night last night, and we’re hanging out more today. We come from an extremely fundie evangelical family which makes it extra nerve wracking, but I’m getting ready to transition, so it’s time—if not today, in the next few months. So many feelings. Wish me luck?
Liturgist fam-I need help finding a children’s book or 5 that feature interracial parents/families! Particularly if the mother is white and the father is black. The book(s) doesn’t have to be about interracial families necessarily, just looking for illustrations that depict such a family. Thanks in advance!
I went to a vigil in Nashville to remember and mourn the lives taken in New Zealand. I met a Muslim single mom who is coming over to dinner soon with her son.
Thought I’d ask on here if anyone else has been to a vigil for the victims. If so I’d love to see your pictures, videos, stories etc.
@Tstan Now that I’m out of most of those local systems, I’m struggling to not swing to the other side and be hyper critical of everyone and everything associated with my previous circles.
A part of it is good—tapping into the rightful anger to establish better boundaries—but I don’t want to lose the nuance of human complexity where people having both beauty and ugliness within.
Spiritual abuse, transphobia
@Tstan I grew up with exceedingly low expectations for people’s behavior (combo of dysfunctional family, trauma, being queer, being autistic). I remember thinking, for example, that church leaders saying all these dehumanizing things about trans people like me, but they at least didn’t physically run me out of the building or something. So it was fine and “couldn’t be that bad,” right?
