Pinned toot

Hello! I go by AJ.

I grew up and am still living in a strongly Calvinist home. I've been questioning since high school but finally shed the heavy mantle of fundamentalism almost 2 years ago.
I'm now a part-time atheist and having a blast learning about other faith traditions.
Hiding this journey from my family is exhausting and I'd love to chat with someone with a similar experience.
Feel free to say hi!!

Hey fam, I'm sad today. I'd love to hear your favorite funny/happy stories or ways you cheer yourself up

Hell

Ok. Real deal question. For those that do not believe in a literal hell, what about sin? I’m new to the no hell conversation and I SHOULD be able to understand these two concepts together but fundamentalist upbringing is holding strong and not meeting new things through. Can someone please explain this!

I’ve decided to use this space to follow/learn from women only (except for a handful of men I love/admire/know in person)... Still trying to decide if I’m going to expand to Black/Brown men as well. So gents (especially white gents), I’m happy to interact but don’t take it personally if I don’t follow you. You dominate a lot of spaces and I’d like to hear what the ladies have to say.

LGBTQ+ Resource (+)

Found this worldwide directory of inclusive spaces for holding weddings! :heart_pride: :bi_pride_heart: :heart_gq: :trans_heart:
Also, the whole magazine is incredible

Car Accident

My brain is a monster: It decided to randomly sing "How Much is that Doggy in the Window" the very day I hit a dog after it ran in front of me on the road 😭.

The dog was ok, just some minor cuts on its face. I told the owner what happened and they were super nice about it

Autism, suicide, mental health

I want to discuss the sorts of pressures that push so many autistic people toward suicide. Take my content warning seriously, please.

There are also very few research studies that do not use problematic language and terms to describe us. If you are sensitive to that right now, don't read the studies I link.

Take care of yourself first. Always.

Just a friendly reminder to always add an image description for images you upload in the fediverse! In the Mastodon interface, just tap on the image again after you upload it, and you'll see an option to add a description. Write the important information about the meaning and purpose of the image, not just its visual descriptors.

Hi all! I enjoy a great deal doing hand lettering in my “down time” but have found myself quickly running out of quotes/poems/words/etc.

SO: send me your quotes/poems/words you enjoy if you’d like, I might just make something out of them you can use for a phone background or just to gaze upon 😂💛

Abortion (+/-) (~)

For all of you in Conservative circles: (and anyone else interested in Reproductive Rights)

Here's a great article I found that might help facilitate more informed discussions around the new law that passed in NY.

Reconstruction questions

Hey all,

I was wondering if I could crowd-source some wisdom... we're trying to create an podcast discussing construction, and (esp the last).

We have a list of questions we'd love interviewees to go through before we sit down together, and I'm wondering if we're missing anything crucial.

If you're interested, I'd love to send you the questions - I don't need your specific answers, just if the questions were on point with your journey.

I grew up being taught that the verse “Having the faith of a child” meant following blindly, trusting blindly. But have you ever heard a child?

“Why? why? why? But why Mom? But why Dad? How? How? How? Can I? Can I?”

I child is curious. I child doesn’t want dumbed down answers. Even if it doesn’t really understand. A child wants to know. Children doubt the small answers and bug you for more. The faith of a child searches, questions, doubts.

If everyone interested is given a week to get hold of copy does that seem about right?

Climate change - thoughts on despair

Climate change () is paralyzing.

I have felt this way, and I have watched other people as the ground congealed around their ankles.

One friend's Evangelical faith deconstructed (like mine did 10 years ago), and it took awhile for this specific issue to sink in. After all, she had patriarchy, white supremacy, and purity culture to contend with first. Then one day it hit her, and she called me (her scientist friend) begging for hope. THREAD 1/
