Far-right + nationalism in Brazil

Meanwhile in Brazil...
The Minister of Education sent an e-mail to most of the public schools in the country asking that a special message from him (which contains, in the end, the current President's campaing slogan) must be read aloud to all the students, the national anthem must be played and the children must be filmed while the anthem is playing and the videos were to be sent back to the Ministry. By the way, the campaing slogan is something as this:

"Brazil above all, God above everyone".

(if you read "Deutschland über alles", you're not wrong)

Far-right + nationalism in Brazil

@cedric Ugh. I hate this rise of nationalism and the far-right that seems to be happening everywhere

Far-right + nationalism in Brazil

@Laura_I and here, as well as in the US, it was with the help (and blessing) of most evangelicals in the country

Far-right + nationalism in Brazil

@cedric hmm I wasn't aware that was the case in Brazil too. I wonder if this is true in all the other countries experiencing this right now. Is it causative? Or are evangelicals just more than willing to spread and support such sentiments

Far-right + nationalism in Brazil

@Laura_I fundamentalist/conservative evangelical churches in Brazil (as well as pentecostal and neo-pentecostal ones) have a HUGE influence from US evangelists, preachers and televangelists. Prosperity Gospel is also very popular among evangelicals here. That explains a part. On the other hand, there is a palpable hunger for power and prestige among the most prominent evangelical pastors here.
