Pinned toot

Autobiographical pinned toot!

Southern Baptist my whole life and a youth pastor's daughter for most of it. Married by 18, a missionary by 23, and a mother of three by 25. Actually reading the parts of the Bible that put women in "their place" started my deconstruction. I'm in an interfaith marriage and (almost) a Psychology PhD student. I'm very interested in Buddhist thought and practices, reading, philosophy, hiking, the enneagram, and FEMINISM. Super happy to be here!

Separation and divorce...

...are the two words dictating every decision in my life right now. Anybody have any words of encouragement? Or a funny joke?

While I know this is the best thing for me right now, I'm really feeling sad today.

Are there any Liturgists in or around the Chattanooga, TN area here by chance?

All I have to do is write ONE paper on ONE topic...but there's so much interesting information out there. 😭

Does anyone else feel like the Christians have taken over coffee shops?

It seems like the words "quiet time" "Nehemiah" and "scripture" are just part of the coffee shop scene now.

...Maybe I'm just going to the wrong coffee shops.

My daily roasts are my morning coffee, my afternoon coffee, and the enneathought email.

Identity issues

After realizing my life has been lived through other people for the past 27 years of my life, I’m on a journey to find my own voice.

First stop is a 5 day silent retreat at a nearby monastery that starts this afternoon.

The irony of finding my voice through a silent retreat is killing me. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

You can beleive whatever you want to believe about the morality of various sexual orientations and gender identies. On social.theliturgists.com, honest questions are always welcome (assuming they are behind a content warning).

Telling people you don’t approve of their orientation or gender identity is not allowed. Full stop. This is an affirming environment.

This include telling people “the Bible” or “God” doesn’t approve of them.

Violations earn a one-way ticket to Bans-ville.

post!

What is your "area of expertise", fellow 5's?! Or what have you been researching lately?

Researching stress tendencies in males and females and I saw this gem of a statement. Any other moms out there reallly feeling this sentence?

Also, Is there a hashtag for liturgists parents already?

"...Please call me by my true names,
so I can wake up,
and so the door of my heart can be left open,
the door of compassion."

Here we have it folks, the first ever image of a black hole.

This is a black hole at the centre of the Messier 87 galaxy, 55million light years away.

Just had a random person come up to me at a coffee shop and tell me they are "happy I'm alive", smile, and walk away.
❤️ 😭 What a world.

Any other 30 Rock fans out there?!

I’m very close to obsessed. 👏🏼

After buying a coffee for a homeless woman at my shop, my manager told me to just “be careful”. It took me back to all the conversations the mission board would have with us, the supposed representations of Jesus in India, about giving to beggars. They told us to just “be careful” when giving to people who have been oppressed for generations and endure extreme suffering daily.

I would rather inadvertently be taken advantage of than miss a chance to make someone feel seen and cared for.

Due to deep, existential fear from my childhood, I have been putting off the task of reading about hell and its potential non-existence. The Richard Rohr episode snapped me right out of it!

Does anyone have any reading suggestions on this topic?

Also, you guys are all great.

Buddhist cat

“No ignorance or end of it,
Nor all that comes of ignorance;
No withering, no death, No end of them.
Nor is there pain, or cause of pain, Or cease in pain, or noble path
To lead from pain;
Not even wisdom to attain! Attainment too is emptiness.”
-Heart Sutra

Sitting here staring at my cat who seems to already know all this. Tongue-couch baths may be the path to enlightenment.

I canNOT get enough of this song. It hits all those good, iconoclastic places in my heart. ❤️
