Pinned toot

My official . I’m a 35yo, cis male, married w/3 sons age 6&under. I’m currently an associate pastor at a baptist church in South Texas. My wife & I have been listening to the Liturgists for the last couple years & we’ve both been deconstructing our faith since then. We still find value & community in the church, but it’s hard to “act” like we believe everything the church espouses when we don’t. I also have a coffee biz side hustle that I’d love to take me out of ministry one day.

"Remember, light is not so much what you directly see as that by which you see everything else. This is why in John’s Gospel, Jesus Christ makes the almost boastful statement, 'I am the Light of the world'. Jesus Christ is the amalgam of matter and spirit put together in one place, so we ourselves can put it together in all places and enjoy things in their fullness. It can even enable us to see as God sees, if that is not hoping for too much." (Richard Rohr, again)

I still very much enjoy Twitter. Not sure if I can completely give that up since most of the people I follow are not on here. I usually leave Twitter feeling like I’ve actually learned something. FB is usually just a black hole of nothingness.

Is it wrong of me to say that I hope most of those that follow or have “friended” me on other social platforms do not find their way over here? I feel this is a safe place for me, but if too many others follow me over here, it won’t be.

Any Liturgists meetup groups in the Houston or South Texas area? Would love to join if there are some.

“Faith is not a belief. Faith is what is left when your beliefs have all been blown to hell. Faith is in the heart, while beliefs are in the head.” - Ram Dass, Be Love Now

I came across this while looking for a different one, but thought it would be good to share with folks.

Part 4 of 4 - May you hear their stories. May you allow yourself to imagine yourself in their shoes, looking at the world from a totally different perspective. It’s only then that I believe that we can truly combat and alleviate issues of injustice. Our God is on the side of justice, and justice happens when all people flourish, not just mine.

Part 3 of 4 - Yes, social injustice and systemic issues may never completely be resolved, this is true. But I believe as a person of privilege, and as a follower of Jesus Christ, it is my duty to seek out justice and equality for the least of these because when I do, I’m doing it to Jesus himself. So if you find yourself realizing that you come from a life of privilege, I invite you and exhort you to listen to those around you that are not like you.

Part 2 of 3 -When people that are not born into white privilege, male privilege, economic privilege, etc. face issues of injustice or inequality and I haven’t stop to recognize my own privilege, I will often brush off their cries of injustice as “lazy,” “just not working hard enough,” “ungrateful,” “milking the system,” etc. Unfortunately, brushing off cries of injustice is something only a person of privilege can do and it is also the main way that perpetuate the injustices and systemic issues.

Part 1 of 3 - When I can live my day without ever having to contemplate social injustices or systemic issues, then I likely live in a place of privilege. While this isn’t something I should feel guilty over because I had no control over that which I was born into. It is helpful to stop and recognize my privilege. Why you may ask?

Do you feel you need permission to do this today? Permission Granted.

Let's Make Social Media Great Again!....somebody had to toot that.

First Toot. Is there any easy way to create or share a link to my FB page and Twitter account that would encourage some of my friends and followers to come join the alternative?
