Pinned toot

Birthday's are a celebration of your existence, of the fact that you don't have to have done anything to be celebrated. The fact that you exist is enough of a reason for a celebration.

And I think that is awesome.

Sick people should get medical treatment not because it's 'fair', but because they are sick.

Hungry people should be fed, not because 'fair', but because they're hungry.

Homeless people -> housing, same deal.

So, yeah, forgive student loans. And fix the loan system; it's rapacious.

Fix broken stuff. Relieve suffering. Don't get hung up on fair while others are bleeding out.

Still can't stop thinking about RHE. 😭 My prayers have devolved to "pleasepleaseplease"

Just want to say, if y'all talk about Captain Marvel, make sure to use the content warning!

@luminesce @kirk for sure. I use Smiling Mind (because it's free) and the guy says "the mind is a thinking machine. That's what it does". I found that helpful anyway. You are not your brain!

@kirk I’m not sure what I expect. But something. Happy, sad, exhausted, horny. But nope. It’s always nada, or overdrive.

I’ve been mediating for about a month now. Pretty much daily. Using the Headspace app. Every day the guide asks something to the effect of “notice your state of mind” or “notice the mood of your mind right now.”

I do get that the only real way to meditate incorrectly is to not do it or to try to force it. But every single day when this question comes up, it always feels the same. My mind is either agitated / amped up or no mood at all. And it’s about 50/50. Never anything different.

So this is kind of shocking to me. I was told about a religious mastodon instance today by one of my users. Being a very queer, polyam, trans non-binary person, I immediately was like "Oh shit, another instance I'm gonna have to block."

But after investigating, I'm seriously surprised. These folks are explicitly anti-racist, anti-transphobia, anti-homophobia, into social justice, etc.

So color me delighted and surprised! Welcome to the federation @mike and your instance!

Oxford comma joke, sexy ex-world leaders

A little graphic a teacher once showed me that proves why we need the . Can’t get it out of my head.

When I joined this Mastodon, I never once imagined that I'd be having a discussion about containers and best practices.

When @mike said he would literally give up a book deal if someone made him not use the Oxford comma...I just don't know if I've ever experienced that much respect for anyone in my life. 😂

Like, the surge of respect and admiration I felt in that moment was so overwhelming and completely ineffable. Did I just have my first mystical experience??? 😂😂😂

“HOW CAN YOU NOT CARE ABOUT THE OXFORD COMMA? It’s the only way to make the English language functional!” 😂

The Oxford comma does not get the attention it deserves.

As @mike correctly points out, the fact that people think it is optional is a blight on our language. Future generations will shake their heads in disbelief and shame.

I’m really surprised that @mike doesn’t use revision control for his manuscripts. I keep everything in git. Even recipes.

This morning I awoke early for my normal gym run. But I was feeling inspired to sit down and write something. So I spent over an hour writing.

I'm not sure if it is going to be a series of blog articles, or perhaps a short book. I guess we'll see where it goes.

Hello, World!

This is the first blog post about Marmota, a distributed and Free Software alternative to Spotify (and by extension the majority of the music streaming services)

Boosts and feedback appreciated!

Sick of having to buy a new toilet every time mine fills up, there's got to be a better way

We are stardust brought to life, then empowered by the universe to figure itself out - and we have only just begun.
Take some time today for wonder & awe; and for self-care.

Suicidal friends

@kirk thanks to all of the well wishers so far.

We (my wife and I) love this young woman to death. She’s had such a hard life, and try as she might, we can convince her that she deserves and is worthy of our love.

Not giving up. But I had really hoped we’d never end up where we are right now.

But tomorrow’s another day. And she’ll get to see it because she called me.
