Pinned toot

🤬 politics

So apparently representatives are allowed to choose their voters and not the other way around.

Paul Simon's mix of irreverence and humility always hits the spot for me so I thought I'd share.

We don't know what will happen when we die. Something big and beautiful probably, but words fail or trivialize. I love his ability to take things serious and not seriously at the same time.

My 15 year old son, out of all the available content, is watching Star Trek TNG.

I could not be more proud.

Lancing the boil of cynicism

Has anyone felt this way and still found a way to be a part of a religious community? Any practical suggestions or musings?

Lancing the boil of cynicism

I want to search for God in a community, but have become so cynical about religious institutions that I have no idea how to connect with a community day to day, locally.

I feel like the through line of my "church" experience has been more manipulation and control than not.

The thought of experiencing any more of that while trying to get to the good stuff (that I believe can exist in community) is exhausting.

Lancing the boil of cynicism

(Warning: this is a bit long and rambling)

So the idea of God as a force greater than us individually or collectively...that holds us all together in some mysterious way...makes sense to me and I want to know more.

And it makes sense to me that this force/identity could have sought to communicate with us by becoming us in some form (or many forms).

And it makes sense that we learn about these mysteries and grow in community.

“The Liturgists Community” on FB took down my link to a gofundme for Bushi and his family (episode, Buddhism Part 1). I guess a Liturgist can’t ask for help. He and his family live in their Center which has been without power for a month. I can vouch for this as I am a student there, and they’re relying on my little generator.

Politics, swears

Occasionally I pop on the birdsite where I follow mostly political stuff. My experience:

Blood pressure increase
Muttering "these motherfuckers"
Mastadon palate cleanser

I have an IG feed that's mostly painters and scrolling through it today so many artists chose to paint Notre Dame burning. And I was thinking some people might find that strange, but learning the enneagram, this feels like a very 4 thing to do.

Art as embodiment. Bringing thought and emotion physically into the world.

Politics, rant

I just had a tense and tiring conversation with my boss. I work in a fairly conservative environment and the conversation was heading in the direction of blaming the poor for being poor. Nothing gets my blood boiling like the moral platitude of "well I did it so why can't they". Thankfully my boss is open to genuine conversation without devolving to defensiveness. But now, I'm pooped and have a lot of work left to do...

Recent self portrait.

I needed to mark the reality of being in between. Exiting one space, not quite entering another.

I don’t know if this will connect with anyone but I thought I’d share it.
