@JessieGinger I try to avoid spending too many spoons there. I've considered trying to voice some positivity and hope there in the past, but I've watched others who tried get torn down by very hateful christians.
@JessieGinger Oh wow. The comments on that post read like a parody of religious corruption. 😭😭😭
@hope @onethousandtwentyfour Humm, I'm not sure pre-rendered bmps is going to scale to future Unicode combinatorics or other things like creative screen pixel layout and weird densities. It seems like platforms should probably invest in some on the fly rendering and caching.
For instance, the objection to the trans flag was "but it's a slippery slope". If arbitrary horizontal/vertical/target stripe flags could be composed from multiple codepoints then problem solved.
Instagram, coming out
@Laura_I FYI, since you do seem to be in the process of exploring your gender identity, Instagram has been a good place for me to find other trans people and hear their stories.
Emotional self harm -> self care
@hope LOL. Summer 2004 I think was my first summer living in Wallingford. I took my bike out on the Burke for a relaxing (fully clothed) ride and then OMG WTF IS GOING ON! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
@hope 😂 ... 😧 ... ... 😳... 😭 ... It happens to the best of us.
@JessieGinger I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I'm also sorry that people insist on peddling hate and divisiveness in the name of a religion that was supposed to be love and fellowship. 😢
Also, side note. Props to the author of this hate for representing two-spirt folks. They are often overlooked. 🙃
@Laura_I What is the "this" that "isn't true"?
@Laura_I So cool! I did a surface level lit review of that area after a colleague I'd just met pointed at me and IDed me autistic. I think they are savant level smart, but ... 🙃 They are probably right, but I choose not to identify that way without a formal diagnosis that I'm not seeking. Anyway. From which scientific discipline would you approach understanding that particular intersection?
christianity, original sin +
@hope I agree with that. But don't know where in history the doctrine called in English "original sin" has ever been understood that way, before Christ, in the early church, or the pre-reformation Catholic. I'm just concerned about trying to re-apply a label that carries, as you well point out, a whole lot of bullshit.
I might be a bit oversensitive because I've recently experienced trans erasure in the name of "original sin".
Religion++, trans love
@rekh127 OMG! Congratulations!
christianity, original sin +
@hope I worry that applying the term "original sin" to systems of systemic oppression is dangerous for a couple of reasons. It makes it easy to deflect blame. "It's not my fault, I wasn't in the garden!" or "What can I do, it's *original sin*!?" Its also used (perhaps inappropriately?) to invoke a first-covenant understanding of hereditary sin that Jesus dismissed as reported in John 9.
@JessieGinger Also, it's totally normal for cis/het folks to don colors at a pride event. Even if they figured out the colors, they may just assume your an ally. 🙂
@JessieGinger Those are so cool!! 😂 😂 Is the trans pride flag well recognized in your community? I didn't recognize the trans pride colors until I was in the middle of coming out. 🤦🏻♀️
