I think the reason the concept of "embracing the moment" as learned through meditation is so powerful to me is because I've always tried to escape the moment that I'm in.

A lifetime of poor self image & social anxiety has conditioned me to flee from what is unfolding around me, regardless if those experiences are good or bad.

Retreating from all those moments has been detrimental to my health. Learning to accept them has been freeing as I've been more able to be engaged in the present moment.

@pjhendricks I'll have to book an appointment. I have fibromyalgia too.

@Mark_Prellberg No I haven't. I will check it out, thanks. Doesn't have to be eastern.

@adamewoods just finished "art of living", any in particular you would recommend? I'll check out the apps thanks

@pjhendricks hey! Hope you feel better soon! Does acupuncture help? I've been thinking about it lately.

About a week ago I started meditating once a day. For me, the idea of "being present in the moment" has been helpful. Know of any good resources on meditation?

Immigration, racism

@markjperkins Calgary was pretty blue this election, too. My MLA is the guy that compared homosexuality to pedophilia and said that homosexual love isn't real love and still got elected by a landslide 🤮

Immigration, racism

@Ricci This time I called him out on his assessment that "Trudeau is letting grandma immigrants in" (he was implying that they won't pull their "fair share" after being let into Canada).

I didn't call him out on the cognitive dissonance this time but have in the past. I often wonder whether it is even worth it with some people tbh.

Immigration, racism

@markjperkins @WolfDreamer yep, rural Alberta here 🙋‍♂️

Immigration, racism

@WolfDreamer and Canadians too 😀

Immigration, racism

@conrad nothing happens. He judges their imiigration eligibility on what he thinks they can contribute to society (usually money or specialized training). He assumes every other migrant is a drain on society and his wife isn't (even though she isn't even working!)

Immigration, racism

Coworker complaining about other immigrants while he is in the middle of bringing him wife here from Thailand is next level bullshit.

"Evolving in Monkey Town" and "A Year of Biblical Womanhood" transformed my faith. I'm not trying to convince myself that I believe conservative Christian theology.

Nationalism, racism, terrorism

@sarahgrace yes, we have a problem and it's terrible that we won't/can't admit it. It's just moral licensing.

@mike hey, I love doing this type of stuff but only as a hobby. Entirely unqualified and there are better people for this. That said, if you can't find anyone else and are scraping the bottom of the barrel then hit me up I'll see what I can do.

Nationalism, racism, terrorism

@drew Welcome to Alberta. Apart from the Major cities (Edmonton & Calgary, but this actually happened in Edmonton!) this type of thinking jss normal everyday stuff.
