About a week ago I started meditating once a day. For me, the idea of "being present in the moment" has been helpful. Know of any good resources on meditation?

Immigration, racism

Coworker complaining about other immigrants while he is in the middle of bringing him wife here from Thailand is next level bullshit.

"Evolving in Monkey Town" and "A Year of Biblical Womanhood" transformed my faith. I'm not trying to convince myself that I believe conservative Christian theology.

Nationalism, racism, terrorism

Yes, this happens in the liberal utopia of Canada too.

I guess what I'm asking is: if anything can be triggering do we need to put a CW on everything?

I'm not really asking to have CW on talk about running but I think we should be more consistent in applying CWs. There needs to be more talk about when CW are necessary as obsoletely anything could be potentially triggering.

I'm not trying to be a jerk even though it may come across that way 😀

I fully understand that things that involve a high level of trauma can trigger behaviours that regress from healthy recovery. CWs are necessary!

Otherwise, anything can be a trigger. EX: I find any talk about running to be emotionally triggering for me because I can't do it anymore because of a chronic syndrome. It is more triggering than speaking about the syndrome directly and even other things in my life that have more trauma attached to them, like dementia or alchoholism

PSA toot: do not give up on this platform because you are afraid you aren’t deep enough, or have the right book to recommend, or scientific theory to cite. You are welcome here. Playfulness, encouragement, and sharing joy - is welcome here.

It's so cold that away from the cities the slowness is tangible. You can actually feel the stillness.

I hate the cold but that is an interesting phenomenon.

Didn't have the truck plugged in and boy did it yell at me when I started it

Social media has the potential to be good but this is a good reminder that it doesn't replace human to human interaction.

@steven did I send you my blog? I re-started in December. Stuff before that is pretty mainstream Evangelical. unforcedrhythm.blogspot.com/?m

I asked before but have way more followers now.

I want to read what you've written lately. Hit me with it!

@steven

Well, you asked!

I write (and record the audio) at www.somethingfromeverything.com

There is something about Jung (Campbell was Jungian) that needs to be said here but I'm not sure what. Something about archetyping masculine and feminine and the effects that sort of mysogyny has on his followers (I'm looking at you Peterson). But, alas I haven't read Jung so I'll shut up 😀

Listening to "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" and it's striking how incredibly dependant myths & stories are on gendered narratives. Campbell himself seems to accept that the hero needs to be male and females are helpers or mothers.
